Shiro is Ethan's father and Yamabuki's mate. He was owned by the hunter Takeda Gohei who has trained him into one of the best hunting dogs. Shiro saves Ethan as he finds Ethan badly beaten up drifting in the river and tells him how to become great.
On a hunt for the wild bear Akakabuto, Shiro and Takeda Gohei get ambushed and now need to struggle for their lives. As Ethan rushes in to help, Shiro sees an option to save his owner and son by pushing Akakabuto and himself into a valley. Akakabuto survived, but Shiro did not.
